For years, pro-Israel groups have attempted to redefine Jewishness as political loyalty to the Israeli state. Now, in the aftermath of Bondi, antisemitism is being used as a pretext to undermine civil liberties and cultural institutions. And an emboldened Australian far-right is using Jewish grief and anger to legitimise racism and attacks on migrant communities and religious minorities.
There is clear and urgent need for an organised, public, Jewish opposition to these forces.
The Council has a plan to build grassroots Jewish community power, counter antisemitism and all forms of racism, challenge the influence of Israel in Australia, defend civil liberties and institutions, and expose the threat and hypocrisy of the resurgent far-right.
